Dr. Bayramov delivered
lecture on impacts of trade liberalization

Dr. Vugar
Bayramov, a chairman of Center for Economic and Social
Development (CESD) had speech on impacts of World Trade
Organization (WTO) Accession on entrepreneurships in Ganca,
the second biggest city of Azerbaijan . The WTO Workshop was
organized by ERC with support of the US Embassy in Baku on
August 4-6, 2006 .
In the
workshop, Gubad Ibadoglu and Azer Mekhtiyev from ERC and
Agachan Akhmadov, head of Regional Development Department in
Ministry of Economic Development served as lecturers. Along
with them, heads of local departments of Ministry of
Economic Development and District Executive Hall shared
their ideas about the topic.
Special
sessions on WTO, Azerbaijan ’ Accession to the WTO, Myths
and Realities of Accession, Pros and Cons of the Accession,
Impacts of Accession on business people, Impacts of
Accession on the Agriculture Sector and etc. were organized.
In the last day of the
workshop, Vugar Bayramov and Agachan Akhmadov, head of
Regional Development Department in Ministry of Economic
Development educated non-business participants.
Agachan Akhmadov, head of
Regional Development Department in Ministry of Economic
Development gave comprehensive information about works done
by the Azerbaijan Government.
Representatives of Municipalities, NGOs, Mass-Media and
Local Executive Bodies were invited to the last day of the
workshop. They were informed about WTO, Azerbaijan ’s
Accession to the WTO and the Role of Civil Society
Institutions in the Accession.

Chairman gave interview on regional economic- social
development

Dr. Vugar Bayramov gave
interview to public and private TV channels on regional
economic- social development in Azerbaijan on August 4, 2006
. He pointed out social aspects of implementation of
Regional Economic Development program and Poverty Reduction
Strategy Program. Dr. Bayramov mentioned that regional
economic and social development should be promoted in order
to achieve sustainable development; “The aim of this
initiative is at contributing economic growth and poverty
reduction. Balanced economic growth is the key in reaching
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ”. CESD chairman paid
attention to gender development in context of regional
economic and social development.

Spoke about Implications of WTO Hong Kong Ministerial
Conference
On June 05, 2006 the WTO week was
officially opened in Baku, Azerbaijan. Along with other
distinguished guests, Dr. Vugar Bayramov, chairman of Center
for Economic and Social Development had speech on WTO Hong
Kong Ministerial Conference which took place in Hong Kong on
December 13-18, 2006. It should be here noted that Dr.
Bayramov attended Hong Kong conference last year. He was
only participant of Azerbaijan civil society institutions.
Dr. Bayramov
pointed out that Doha Work Program was renewed in Hong Kong.
According to HK agreement export subsidies will be
eliminated by 2013. Cotton subsidies are eliminated in 2006.
Dr. Bayramov
spoke about NAMA and Swiss Formula which are important part
of NK conclusions. He said force task will prepare policy
recommendation on services in 2006. He also talked about
"Aid for Trade".
Vugar
Bayramov paid special attentions on agriculture, service and
the Special Development Package. He shared his ideas about
food aid as well.
Dr.
Bayramov responded questions regarding HK Ministerial
Conference and its positive implications to developing
countries.
Representatives of certain ministries, parliamentary
members, civil society and mass-media institutions
representatives attended the workshop.
Dr. Bayramov had speech about
advantages of WTO Accession for parliamentary members on
June 06, 2005. He was a speaker the WTO workshop for civil
society institution representative on June 07, 2006.
